طولانی ترین زلزله ی جهان 10 دقیقه بوده است که بزرگی در حدود 9.1 تا 9.3 داشته است و دومین زلزله ی بزرگ ثبت شده می باشد.

این زلزله ، در26 دسامبر سال 2004 در اقیانوس هند، در سواحل غربی سوماترا اتفاق افتاده است

این زمین لرزه باعث یک سری از سونامی ویرانگر در امتداد سواحل شدکه در طی آن بیش از 225000 نفر کشته شدند.

در این زلزله کشورهای اندونزی، سریلانکا، هند و تایلند ویرانی های شدیدی را داشتند.

The earthquake triggered a series of devastating tsunamis along the coasts of most landmasses bordering the Indian Ocean, killing more than 225,000 people in eleven countries, and inundating coastal communities with waves up to 30 meters (100 ft) high. It was one of the deadliest natural disasters in historyIndonesiaSri LankaIndia, and Thailand were hardest hit.
